Retirement Community Brings Magic of 1940s Home for Seniors with Reunion

High school reunions are always full of laughs and great memories. The Carleton Place High School reunion, hosted by Waterside Retirement Community, took on special significance, because the former students in attendance all graduated during the 1940s and 1950s. Nearly one hundred alumni came together to reminisce with old friends and make new ones at the event spearheaded by renowned author and journalist, Mary Cook, and local area residents, Joan Hamilton and Audrey Wilson.

“I’ve wanted to do this for many years, and it is so exciting to see it finally happen!” exclaimed Ms. Cook. “Partnering with Waterside Retirement Community provided the planning team a perfect venue for the event. The welcoming and accommodating approach of the Waterside team has made this initiative successful and great fun,” she continued.

“We are thrilled to host this incredible event,” said Marilyn Colton, Waterside’s Community Director. “We really wanted to show our appreciation for the contribution these folks have made to Carleton Place and the Ottawa Valley over the years. They have given us the quality of life we enjoy in our communities and our country today.”

Graduates were treated to a complimentary social hour followed by a buffet lunch provided by Waterside, live entertainment and special presentations by a number of graduates. Bernie Costello, a local musician provided 40’s and 50’s music during the lunch. Bob Hill, a former resident of Carleton Place, was the keynote speaker. Many in attendance also took the opportunity to tour Waterside, one of Ottawa Valley’s newest retirement communities, located on the shores of the Mississippi River. Some graduates even quipped about how much fun it would be to live in the same community with former classmates.
