Our Health Campus Promotes Healthy Living

Winchester, VA (PRWEB) July 30, 2011

Our Health, a local nonprofit organization, is dedicating their new campus sign on Monday, August 8th at 11:30, to celebrate Dr. Robert G. Kendall and his instrumental support for the Our Health Kendall Community Campus, which houses several area nonprofit and health and human service organizations. Kendall is responsible for the major capital campaign which funded the original Our Health buildings. Their mission is to collaborate with area nonprofit agencies so that they can help them provide efficient services to their clients. The sign dedication is timely as the campus kicks off its first ‘Healthy Living Event’ on campus, Wednesday, August 10th from 9am to 1pm. Campus agencies and area farmers’ markets are hosting an informative session and food sale to promote healthy habits for Kendall Community Campus clients and their community. Valley Health Mobile Health Coach will also be on site with a nutritionist for consultation and free health screenings.

The Kendall Community Campus sign was made possible through many area business partners including Shockey Companies and the ongoing support of Mr. Donald Shockey, Frederick Block, Heritage Garden Club, Advantage Edge and others. Sharen Gromling, Executive Director of Our Health, shares, “The Healthy Living Event is the result of community support, originally led by Dr. Kendall, to appreciate the mission of Our Health and our nonprofit partners. We want to collaborate in any way to promote a healthy lifestyle for our area residents. Without Dr. Kendall’s initial support, we would not be here today to share a team approach on a simple concept, such as providing healthy food for our families.”

Our Health is a non-profit community resource, affiliated with Valley Health, which supports community agencies in the Northern Shenandoah Valley. Incorporated in 1999, an idea became a reality when a collaborative location became home for several area agencies in downtown Winchester. The campus was further expanded in 2010 when key public service agencies moved into the Snapp Foundry Building. This historic structure was renovated to a Silver LEED-certified standard. Our Health strives to develop collaborative partnerships that encourage community involvement and commitments to meeting the health and human service needs of our region. Its Volunteer Action Center provides viable services to connect volunteers to area needs and nonprofit partners with opportunities to enhance their programs.
