Nominate an NGO Performing Outstanding Public Health Work for the 2011 Clarence H. Moore Award for Excellence for Voluntary Service

To honor the achievements of volunteerism of outstanding non-governmental organizations working in Latin America and/or the Caribbean, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Pan American Health and Education Foundation (PAHEF) invite you to nominate an outstanding organization for the 2011 Clarence H. Moore Award for Excellence for Voluntary Service.
The award celebrates the achievements of national or local non-governmental organizations with a high volunteer-to-staff ratio operating in Latin America and/or the Caribbean that are performing public health work.

The award consists of a cash prize, a certificate of honor, and a symbolic representation of the award. The awardee is invited to attend the annual meeting of the PAHO Directing Council and will be a guest of honor at PAHO/PAHEF’s awards program event in Washington, DC.
In 2010, The Peruvian League against Cancer won the award for its exceptional work in providing a range of screening and health services to combat cancer and save lives throughout Peru.
The Clarence H. Moore Award for Excellence for Voluntary Service is part of the Awards for Excellence in Inter-American Public Health Program, a joint initiative of PAHO and PAHEF.
About Clarence H. Moore
Clarence H. Moore, an American, joined the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1947 as an administrative officer in Geneva, where he was instrumental in setting up the WHO regional office structure. He served as executive director and chief operating officer of PAHEF from its inception in 1968 until his death in 1988. For most of that time, Mr. Moore served as a volunteer, accepting no salary for his work at PAHEF.

A jury of distinguished public health professionals reviews nominations and recommends a candidate for each award to the board of directors of the Foundation for final selection.
