Kansas Health Information Network and ICA Discuss Finding Success in a Large and Diverse Multi-State HIE

New York, NY (PRWEB) August 11, 2011

The Institute for Health Technology Transformation announced today that Laura McCrary, EdD, Executive Director, Kansas Health Information Network and John Tempesco, Chief Marketing Officer, ICA will be delivering a case study entitled, “Finding Success in a Large and Diverse Multi-State HIE” at the Institute’s Health IT Summit in Seattle taking place August 15-16, 2011 at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel.

Dr. McCrary and John Tempesco will provide a high-level overview of the Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN) project discussing how this model works well for both urban and rural communities and how it is bringing this community model to all participants, not just to hospitals. They will also discuss how KHIN defines a community as well as the challenges of linking both urban and rural settings with their implicit differences. Kansas has more critical access hospitals than any other state in the US and Dr. McCrary and John Tempesco will share how this model can be replicated elsewhere in the country.

“KHIN provides services to all of Kansas and portions of northwest Missouri encompassing large urban and rural areas. KHIN’s goal is to connect 80% of healthcare providers in the service area including 163 hospitals, 4500 physicians, 100 public health departments, 40 community mental health centers and 400 long term care facilities. Our challenge of linking this large population requires health information exchange functionality that integrates with disparate EMR/EHR systems and provides the correct clinical data at the point-of-care. ICA’s CareAlign® was the tool we needed to accomplish this complex task,” McCrary says.

The iHT2 Health IT Summit in Seattle is the premier executive summit focused on the strategies and tools that are re-defining customer care, collaboration and efficiency in the health care provider markets.
